It is a sad fact that Irish wolfhounds are not long-lived, the majority dying at
the age of seven. As a rule of thumb, a multiple of ten can be used to approximate
their age to human years - for example, a seven year old wolfhound has had
his 'three score years and ten', whilst a ten year old would, if human, qualify
for a telegram from the Queen. These pages pay tribute to much loved wolfhounds from across the world, each of them missed and remembered by their families. |

THE THREE ORIGINALS: |
Branigan 17 April 2003 ~ 30 June 2008 The first of our second 'batch' of wolfhounds to leave us, Bran's death from bone cancer at the age of five has left a huge gap, not just in our hearts and home, but also in the pack. He is irreplaceable, and brings to an end, far too soon, the glory days of the Torteval 'Gang of Four'. More about Branigan |
Clancy 24 May 1996 ~ 16 November 1999 Clancy was our first wolfhound bitch, our very special golden girl who broke our hearts when she died after a six month illness at the age of only three-and-a-half. More about Clancy |
McGinty 15 May 1994 ~ 31 May 2002 McGinty was our first wolfhound, forever our 'main man'. A legend in his own lifetime (perhaps that should be 'his own dinnertime'), he was the inspiration for this website but died aged eight before it could be completed. More about McGinty |
Chewbacca 12 May 1995 - 26 March 2004 Chewie was our much loved 'adopted son', who, with superb timing, needed a home just after Clancy's death. He quickly won our hearts. His death came gently, just before his ninth birthday. More about Chewbacca |
If you would like to email us photographs of your wolfhound(s) past we'll be happy to add them to our 'Garden of Remembrance'. |
FROM OUR SECOND PACK: |
We will never forget our own very special wolfhounds past: |
Hogan 4 August 2004 ~ 23 Nov 2009 Branigan's best mate and sparring partner, Hogan was the gentlest and laziest of dogs, known and loved for being rather slow and dim-witted. He was put to sleep after battling heart disease for several months, an unequal and vain struggle which we couldn't allow to continue any longer. More about Hogan |
Darcy 13 January 2002 ~ 22 May 2010 Darcy was special - and she knew it. Leader of her pack from an early age, she demanded and got the attention and respect from her humans and her canine minions that she confidently believed she deserved. We hoped she would reach a great age, but she died at eight years old from a probable perforated ulcer. More about Darcy |
