Track and
Field including:
sprints,
discus,
high jump,
long jump and
gymnastics.
Water sports: starting with
dry training as a puppy, leading to the
paddling pool and progressing to
supervised swimming practice, the competent swimmer can then enjoy
surfing,
deep sea paddling,
scuba diving and, for the specialist,
rabbit snorkelling.
Triathlon:
running,
swimming and
sleeping.
Wrestling:
early training with Dad and
practice with a sparring partner progressing through
unarmed combat to the supreme discipline of
cat wrestling.
Ball games: although not noted for their ball skills, wolfhounds have been known to excel at
football and of course, their height gives them a distinct advantage when playing
basketball.
Then there are wolfhound speciality events such as:
Digging:
junior,
senior and
pairs and
Eating:
junior,
pairs, and
mixed doubles.
And finally, the sport which comes as naturally and beautifully to Irish wolfhounds as football to the Brazilians and long-distance running to the Kenyans -
Sleeping:
indoor,
outdoor,
pairs,
mixed doubles,
synchronised sleeping
and the
team event.
Intensive training in the use of specialised equipment is undertaken by participants, but it must be reported with regret that
cheating has been known to occur.
